History and Foundation

The Cultural and Environmental Public Benefit Organization of the Municipality of Chania – Mediterranean Architecture Centre (KEPPEDIH-CAM) was established, in accordance to the Official Government Gazette No 1501, 21.06.11, following the merger of the six Public Benefit Organizations of the Municipality of Chania:

a) The Public Benefit Organization of the Municipality of Chania (KEDIH) (GG 2529 /Β / 29-12-2009),
b) The Mediterranean Architecture Centre (CAM) (GG 2529 / B / 29-12-2009),
c) The Public Benefit Organization of the Municipality of Akrotiri (GG 2353 / Β / 20-11-2008),
d) The Public Benefit Organization of the Municipality of El. Venizelos (GG 1296 / Β / 3-7-2008),
e) The Public Benefit Organization of the Municipality of Therissos (GG 1460 / B / 24-7-2008),
f) The Public Benefit Organization of the Municipality of Nea Kydonia (GG 1973 / Β / 24-9-2008),

pursuant to the provisions of articles 1, 103, 107 and 109 of Law 3852/2010 concerning the "New Structure of Local Government and Decentralized Administration – Kallikratis Program" (GG 87 / Α / 7-6-2010) and the articles 254 and 255 of Law 3463/2006 (Hellenic Code of Administrative Procedures).

The organizational plan of KEPPEDIH-CAM, can be analyzed in three levels:

the Mediterranean Architecture Centre (CAM), the Culture and Environment oriented Municipal Organization (KEPPEDIH) and the supported Social Structures (KIFI).

The activities for all three are performed on the basis of decisions taken by the Executive Board which holds ordinary and extraordinary meetings to decide on any issue including the everyday operations of the Organization. The Board consists of a President, a Vice President and 9 members, in the absence of which the 11 appointed alternate members replace them.

KEPPEDIH-CAM manages the following cultural centres:

1. The Centre of Mediterranean Architecture (The Great Arsenali)
2. The Sabbionara Gate
3. The East Moat Theatre (Anatoliki Tafros)
4. The Theatre of the Peace and Friendship Park
5. The "Kipos" Municipal Cinema
